John A. Reel, 57, of Du Quoin, passed away at 6:38 A.M., Friday, April 8, 2005 at his residence.
John had been an over the road truck driver. He was of the Catholic Faith. He was a US Army Veteran of the Viet Nam Conflict where he served as a tank driver. He was awarded the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and Bronze Star Medal. He was a member of the Du Quoin American Legion and VFW Post.
He was born January 9, 1948 at Kokomo, Indiana the son of Charles and Frances (Wagner) Reel.
He married Margaret A. Lewis on January 31, 1972 at Du Quoin, IL and she survives.
He is survived by his wife of Du Quoin, four daughters- Melissa Ann Dennis and husband Roger of Du Quoin, Jennifer Lyn Reel of Du Quoin, Ashley Dawn Rice and husband Keenan of Du Quoin and DeAnna Rae Healy and husband Robert of Du Quoin, parents- Charles and Frances Reel of Kokomo, IN, two sisters- Patricia Collin of Kokomo, IN and Sandy Shepard of Kokomo, IN, six grandchildren- Jordyn, Morgan, Zachary, Madison, Riley, Austin and one on the way.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, April 13, 2005 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Msgr. Harry Jerome officiating.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 P.M., Tuesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Interment will be in the Elkville Cemetery at Elkville.
Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Du Quoin American Legion Post.
